Have you ever felt the weight of the world upon your shoulders?
If you have, you’re not alone.
Has anyone ever said dismissively to you -
You took the easy way out?
If they have, you’re not alone.
And if you really don’t want to feel alone, come to our virtual Support Group TOMORROW night, yes, TUESDAY night this week because of Passover and the Seder on Wednesday. Same time: 7 pm. Same link: which you should have or know where to find. If not - email me and I’ll send it - or look on the FB page. Sorry to make it a challenge, but we need to prevent “zoom bombing.”
We’ll certainly discuss 1) the weights on our shoulders - how they got there and how to get rid of them and 2) what to say to those who say we “took the easy” way out - especially as it regards weight loss surgery. One really cool option is to refer them to this Teddy Roosevelt quote deriding the “valor of the non-combatant” but I am sure we can come up with others as well.
IT IS NOT THE CRITIC WHO COUNTS; NOT THE MAN WHO POINTS OUT HOW THE STRONG MAN STUMBLES, OR WHERE THE DOER OF DEEDS COULD HAVE DONE THEM BETTER. THE CREDIT BELONGS TO THE MAN WHO IS ACTUALLY IN THE ARENA, WHOSE FACE IS MARRED BY DUST AND SWEAT AND BLOOD; WHO STRIVES VALIANTLY; WHO ERRS, WHO COMES SHORT AGAIN AND AGAIN, BECAUSE THERE IS NO EFFORT WITHOUT ERROR AND SHORTCOMING; BUT WHO DOES ACTUALLY STRIVE TO DO THE DEEDS; WHO KNOWS GREAT ENTHUSIASMS, THE GREAT DEVOTIONS; WHO SPENDS HIMSELF IN A WORTHY CAUSE; WHO AT THE BEST KNOWS IN THE END THE TRIUMPH OF HIGH ACHIEVEMENT, AND WHO AT THE WORST, IF HE FAILS, AT LEAST FAILS WHILE DARING GREATLY, SO THAT HIS PLACE SHALL NEVER BE WITH THOSE COLD AND TIMID SOULS WHO NEITHER KNOW VICTORY NOR DEFEAT.
This will be our third weekly virtual Support Group and we have had a really engaging group of 20+ participants each time. I hope that this week you too will be a part of it.
Just a little SWLS family update to keep you entertained and amazed. The FB “step question and challenge” garnered 30+ participants who collectively took more than 1,000,000 steps in a week! Wow. Yes, you read that correctly - one million steps in a week. The “marathon challenge” is also progressing and it is not too late to join. During just the first five days of April, 19 participants have already walked 201 miles. The leader has already met the 26.2 mile challenge by walking 26.5 miles and the second place challenger has done 25.7. There is no telling what the motivated woman or man can do.
Sunny and 61 in Dedham as I type this. Headed out for a walk as soon as Jordana and Ari finish their “work from home.” I do hope you’ll get a chance to get out and enjoy as well.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night.
Adam
